Current Projects & Time Management Tips!

I feel like now is the best time to write this blog post as I currently have a few different projects on the go...

Last week I received a few eLearning products that need to be completed, some of which have quite close deadlines. I have been asked to create a few sections of two large eLearning packages for two of my colleagues.

One of the projects I am working on at the moment.

I'm also creating a standalone drag and drop activity about a learning environment, in which the learners have to drag the statements to the correct part of the table.
Here is what the drag and drop is looking like at the moment, it's still a work in progress.

I do have a few other learning packages and eLearning designs that I need to work on however they don't have a deadline as close as these ones, I have planned my time out well across all of the projects therefore I can finish them for the deadlines.

Time Management Tips

I'm not an expert on time management but I do have to manage my time well in my job and other situations at home. So here are a few things I like to do to help keep on track of deadlines.
  • Write everything down.
Yes this may seem quite obvious but it does help a lot, whether you're writing your tasks down electronically or on paper it can help visualise what you need to do and how long you have to achieve it. I tend to do both, I have a post-it note on my monitor with my tasks and the deadlines for each one, but I also use the tasks on outlook as you can add deadlines for them and add a bit more information about what needs doing.
  • Plan your day/week out.
What other commitments do you have? What work is the most important? How long do you want to spend on each task? Make a schedule of your day/week, do a few hours of one project, then do an hour on another,.
  • Stop the distractions.
I know this isn't exactly time management but it will help you a lot to get your work done, not everyone will relate to this but I know that I get distracted very easy. To help myself with this I turn my phone/TV/Laptop off or move them into a different room, this will stop you from looking at them and help you concentrate on what you need to do.
  •  Plan breaks.
No one wants to work constantly for hours straight so add a few breaks to take your mind off things, this will help you keep focused for all the work you need to do. However this may not work for everyone as once you're on your break you may want to stay off and that won't be helpful.
I know there are plenty of other tips for managing your time, but these are what works for me and what I have found the most effective.
